Cruising Fleet
1.1
Cruising
Fleet Yachts shall not
use whisker poles or spinnaker poles.
1.2
All
yachts shall obey their respective class rules.
1.3
Any yacht using sails not conforming to those
registered shall be subject to disqualification.
2.
SAFETY:
2.1
EACH SKIPPER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR
THE SAFETY AND ACTIONS OF HIS/HER YACHT AND CREW.
2.2
Each skipper shall make their
own decision to sail or not to sail in rough conditions.
They are responsible for determining if the sailing conditions are beyond
their or their crews’ skill level. It
is not the responsibility of the Race Committee (RC) to determine if the
conditions are safe for each yacht.
2.3
Yachts shall comply with all
applicable laws regarding required items of safety including, but not limited to
wearable, approved life jackets (PFD) for each person on board. A throwable
floatation device must be accessible for instant use.
2.4
It shall be the responsibility
of individual skippers and sailors to decide whether or not to wear life
jackets.
2.5
It is the obligation of any
yacht that withdraws to notify the RC, if possible. If necessary use VHF Radio
Channel 71.
2.6
RC may postpone, abandon a race
due to high winds, area lightning or other threatening weather. Decision by RC
shall not be grounds for protest.
3.
SCHEDULE:
The regatta will consist of one race commencing with the gather
signal at 1200 on Saturday. If a
race is not completed on Saturday, it will be rescheduled to start at 1000 on
Sunday.
4.
ENTRIES: Yachts declared
eligible by LMYRA may be entered by completing registration with the regatta
organizing authority.
5.
NOTICES TO COMPETITORS &
CHANGES TO SI’S:
5.1
Notices
to competitors will be posted on the Official Notice Board located on the porch
at the Columbia Sailing Club.
5.2
Changes
to the SI’s shall be posted no later than 0830 on the day of the race.
5.3
Changes
to the schedule shall be posted no later than 2100 on the evening before the
scheduled race.
5.4
Once
on station, RC may transmit wind direction, compass heading to the first mark or
island, countdowns, shortening course, etc. before and during the race per Rule
41.d.
6.
CHECK‑IN: All registered
yachts are automatically checked in. You
will not have to check-in on the water.
7.
MARKS AND COURSES: The course shall be displayed on the
back of the RC Boat. (MARKS) All
course marks will be islands. The
start and finish pin shall be a yellow hiphop. An orange flag on the RC boat
will be the other end of the starting and finish line.
8.
COURSES:

Note:
Boats are not allowed to sail between Jim Spence and Lands End.
9.
STARTING SIGNALS: Reverse
start
in accordance with the starting times distributed before the race. The following
timing and flag sequence changes RRS 26.

TIME LIMIT: The time limit is 3.5 hours.
All yachts not finished by the time limit will be assigned a finish by RC
based on their position on the course. At
the discretion of the RC, the time limit may be extended if all yachts will be
able to finish due to available wind. It
is the obligation of any yacht which withdraws to notify the RC, if possible.
Please use VHF Radio Channel 71.
11.
POSTPONEMENT: RC will display a yellow flag and two sound
signals.
ABANDONMENT: RC
will display a yellow flag and
a red flag and three sound signals
SHORTEN COURSE: RC
will display a yellow flag and a white
flag and two sound signals. The
RC may Shorten
to a point on the rhumb line between two marks. The signals shall be made in the
vicinity of the prior turning mark before the first yacht rounds the mark. These
flag and procedure changes modify RRS 27 &32.
12.
PROTESTS
& PENALTY:
The protesting yacht shall:
12.1
Immediately
hail “Protest” and conspicuously display a red flag at the first reasonable
opportunity to the offending yacht that she is being protested (RRS 61.1). (This
gives the offending yacht a chance to acknowledge and exonerate themselves.).
Failure to hail protest and display a red flag will result in your protest being
rejected.
12.2
Report
the protest to the RC
immediately after finishing the race providing the sail number of the yacht
being protested.
12.3
File
the protest in writing
(as required by Rule 61) and give to Protest Committee Chairman within one hour
of the RC docking.
12.4
If a
yacht accepts responsibility for the protest, the yacht may make two complete 360 degree turns (two tacks and two gybes) at the
first reasonable opportunity (RRS 44.1 & 44.2).
You must notify the RC of your
turns. However, if you caused injury or serious damage or gained a
significant advantage in the race by your breach your penalty shall be to
retire.
12.5
If a yacht touches a mark, you shall exonerate your
self by promptly making a 360 turn penalty. However, if you have gained a
significant advantage in the race by touching the mark your penalty shall be to
retire.
13. SCORING:
The scoring will be based on order of
finish.
